In the beginning, Elohim (Genesis 1:1)

We have learned that we are in covenant with our God through the finished work of the cross. We have been restored into a relationship with our heavenly Father.

Now, it is time to get to know Him. He introduces Himself and His character through His names.

The first name God reveals to us is Elohim (L-O-Heem) in Genesis 1:1. He is the God of creation, greatness, power and glory.

“In the beginning God (Elohim) created the heavens and the earth.”

He is the judge of all creation. We see in Genesis after each day of creation He looked at His work and judged it as “good.”

After creating man, God judged His work as “very good.”

Then in Romans 14:10 Paul tells us, “For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat…

Prior to God’s (Elohim) creating the heavens and earth, time as we know it did not exist. Time is determined by the orbits of the sun, moon and earth. Everything else of God is outside of time. It only began here when God declared morning and evening as the first day.

Elohim is the One for Whom nothing is impossible. He created this vast universe by speaking the heavens and earth into existence with no problems, no smog, no sickness, no illnesses and no sin.

He is all knowing. No problem, not even yours, is too difficult for Him to solve.

He is still the same today. As Elohim, He still works creative miracles. It takes Elohim, our creator, to work a creative miracle on our behalf.

As Elohim, God created us in His likeness and His image. We are to reflect and reveal Him to the world.

He gave man dominion over the earth. Dominion is a kingdom word. It is the King’s domain. He gave us His domain over the earth and the power through the name of Jesus to rule and reign in His place under His Lordship.

In Proverbs 18:21 God gives us the instructions on how to reign. It is the same way He created and reigns; with the spoken word.

We are to imitate God. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

Remember, Jesus said that He only did what He saw the Father do and He only said what He heard the Father say. (John 12:49) These are our instructions as well.We must line up our words with our heavenly Father's words in order to come into agreement with Him.

Deuteronomy 30:19 confirms this truth. “This day I (God) call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now, choose life, so that you and your children may live.”

This is a promise of God. However; we must act on it in faith. Speak His words over family members, situations, and ourselves in order that we and our children may have life. (James 2:26) "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also."

Since God’s words are powerful, and we are made in His image and likeness, so are ours.

Psalm 8:4-5 (AMP) is another verse that has often been mistranslated. Read it in the amplified version. “What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of [earth-born] man that You care for him? Yet, You have made him a little lower than God (Elohim), And You have crowned him with glory and honor.”

Through Jesus Christ, we are enthroned with Jesus in the heavenly's. We just need to learn how to take our place of authority in His name on earth and reflect and reveal our heavenly Father.

This is made possible through the finished work of Christ on the cross.

Let’s celebrate our kingdom position with Christ through communion today.

Blessings on your day!

Karen
