Life or death, our choice (Proverbs 18:21)

If you were given the choice of life or death, would you choose life or death?

That may sound like a ludicrous question, but according to the Bible, we choose death more often than we choose life.

Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

Here the word power means to deliver something into ones hands, (H#3027) or to place the responsibility for the outcome on that person.

Deuteronomy 30:19 tells us that God has placed this law into our hands. In other words He has given us the responsibility to carry it out and all of heaven and earth must obey us, good or bad. “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.”

God gives us the instructions for life in Proverbs 4:20, 22, “My son, attend to My words; incline your ear unto My sayings…For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.”

To choose life, our words must align with the word of God. When we say things like, "I get the flu every year whether or not I take the flue shot," you will get the flu. You have aligned your words against the word of God which says, "By His stripes you were healed." (1 Peter 2:24) and "He sent His word and healed them." (Psalm 107:20)

Rather say something like, "By the power of the Word of God in me, I will not get the flue. According to God's word, no weapon formed against me shall prosper because by the stripes of Jesus I have already been healed." (Psalm 91, 1 Peter 2)

According to Job 22::28, when we declare a thing (with our tongue) it will come to pass and God will shine Hie light on its path.

When the Beatles were asked if they would ever leave show business, John replied, "Unless I get shot or something."  His last album released after his death was "Borrowed Time" where he says, "Living on borrowed time without thought for tomorrow."

Jordan Runtagh wrote an article called, "10 Music Legends Who Eerily Predicted Their Own Death" where he lists albums, songs and quotes talking about their deaths.

Luke 6:45 says, “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth that which is evil: for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

The power of our words will destroy us or give us life. It is our choice. Since God has made this a law, it is as true as the law of gravity. Just as we do not have the choice to obey the law of gravity, we do not have the choice as to whether we live by our words. However; we do have the choice of what words we choose to live by.

Dear heavenly Father,

As I eat of this bread I ask for Your Spirit to dwell within me. I ask You to speak Your words through me so the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart will be acceptable to You, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer. (Psalm 19:14)

I drink of the blood of the Lamb of God who has taken away my sin and restored me back to You. Amen!

Blessings on your day!

Karen
